L3Harris Technologies Inc. has secured a new contract from the U.S. Department of Defense for additional VAMPIRE systems, designed to counter unmanned aerial threats. This new order builds upon the initial delivery and installation of VAMPIRE systems in 2023, aimed at supporting European military operations. The VAMPIRE system, which stands for Vehicle Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment, is equipped with advanced reconnaissance and precision strike capabilities, allowing ground forces to protect critical infrastructure from enemy drone attacks. The system integrates L3Harris' WESCAM MX™-10D RSTA targeting and sensor system, enhancing the ability to identify and engage targets swiftly. It also utilizes the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System rocket and L3Harris proximity fuze, along with Widow® mission management software, to increase lethality against both ground and aerial threats. Additionally, the VAMPIRE system has potential applications in maritime operations, capable of addressing threats from UAS, fast inshore attack crafts, and low-flying aircraft.
