ArcelorMittal (MT) unit ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada said Wednesday it will consolidate its wire drawing operations into a single facility, a move that will eliminate 153 jobs.
The company said wire drawing activities, previously split between sites in Hamilton, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec, will now be fully concentrated at the Montreal location. Production at the Hamilton site will be permanently shut down in the coming weeks.
ArcelorMittal said it plans to maintain open dialogue with employee representatives to support the workers affected by the closure.
