1909 ET - Calavo Growers saw $941,000 in added tariff costs in its latest quarter from three days of levies on USMCA-compliant Mexican imports, the company says. The company says it believes the expense distorts its quarterly results, which saw profit up slightly, to $6.85 million, from $6.06 million a year ago. Mission Produce, another avocado producer, recorded $1.1 million in added costs as a result of the tariffs. The company posted a lower profit in its latest quarter, in part due to the tariff costs. Both companies say they were unable to pass off the added expenses due to the unanticipated and short-term nature of the levies. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
