GEK TERNA Group has been announced as the provisional preferred bidder for two significant railway projects in Romania, with a total contract value of approximately €1.0 billion. The projects involve the design and execution of works for the rehabilitation of the railway line between Craiova, Drobeta Turnu Severin, and Caransebeș, which are part of the Orient/East-Mediterranean corridor. The joint venture with Alstom Romania will cover a total length of 83 kilometers and includes two segments: LOT 1 from Craiova to Filiași with a budget of €543.4 million, and LOT 2 from Filiași to Igiroasa with a budget of €449.2 million. The projects are being tendered by Romania's national railway company, CFR, and involve a 12-month period for finalizing studies and design, followed by 36 months for construction. The agreements are expected to be signed following the formal completion of the tender process by the end of the year.
