萨尔瓦多是全球首个将比特币定为法定货币的国家。根据萨尔瓦多比特币办公室的数据，自 2024 年 12 月 19 日（IMF 协议宣布后）以来，该国又买入了 240 枚比特币，使政府的国库钱包总持有量达到 6,209 枚比特币（当前价格约为 106,658 美元/枚）。
在 2024 年 12 月，萨尔瓦多与 IMF 达成了一项 14 亿美元的贷款协议，其中包括一项条款，要求该国放弃比特币作为法定货币的地位，并停止由政府主导的比特币购入行为。
然而，该国自 2022 年由总统 Nayib Bukele 提出“一天一枚比特币”的策略以来，仍在持续执行这一每日购买计划。在被问及此事时，IMF 西半球事务部主任罗德里戈·瓦尔德斯（Rodrigo Valdes）于 2025 年 4 月 26 日的新闻发布会上表示，该国在技术上仍符合协议规定：“萨尔瓦多依然符合其在整个财政部门范围内不增持比特币的承诺。”
