Samsung Electronics Likely to Post Sequential Earnings Fall for 2Q -- Market Talk

0122 GMT - Samsung Electronics is expected to report a sequential earnings fall for 2Q, Hanwha Investment & Securities analyst Kim Kwang-jin says in a note. The South Korean tech giant's operating profit is projected to drop 8% on quarter for the April-June period. Earnings growth seems to be limited by a delay in qualifying its advanced high-bandwidth-memory chips and turning around its unprofitable foundry unit as well as the negative impact of the dollar's weakness against the won, Kim notes. Still, he expects Samsung's earnings to recover from 2H, largely on higher prices for conventional DRAM chips and a possible supply of 12-layer HBM3E chips to Nvidia. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
