China has mastered the art of skirting US export controls, with its semiconductor design capabilities lagging America by up to two years, Bloomberg News reported early Thursday morning in Beijing, citing White House crypto and artificial intelligence czar David Sacks.
DeepSeek's breakthroughs in AI show the advancement of Chinese technology despite US export restrictions, Sacks said in an interview on Bloomberg TV.
Huawei is also catching up to its competitors globally, the report said, citing Sacks.
The crypto and AI czar also called for a more nuanced approach to semiconductor export controls, saying tight US restrictions could open a window for Huawei to exploit, Bloomberg said.
