智通财经APP获悉，英国5月零售销售大幅下滑，消费者行为的急剧逆转表明第二季度经济可能陷入困境。英国国家统计局周五公布的数据显示，线上线下商品销售量环比下降2.7%，远差于经济学家预期的0.5%降幅，创下2023年12月以来最大跌幅。
尽管第一季度零售业表现良好，但好天气和实际工资上涨推动的销售热潮已戛然而止。5月的下跌完全逆转了今年初以来的增长势头。
在2025年初强劲增长之后，零售业疲软将加剧英国经济在第二季度面临的阻力。尽管第一季度国内生产总值(GDP)增长0.7%，但4月份经济出现萎缩，预测机构预计第二季度将大幅放缓。
5月份食品销售额骤降5%，零售业各个领域都表现疲软。家居用品商店销售额下降2.5%，服装和鞋类销售额下降1.8%。
数据公布后英镑回吐涨幅，日内上涨0.1%至1英镑兑1.3484美元。截至周四，交易员预计英国央行年底前将降息48个基点。
