Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., is taking proactive measures to help mitigate the impact of rising electricity supply prices during the hot summer months. With the approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, JCP&L has introduced several initiatives aimed at supporting families affected by the surge in electricity costs, which account for nearly 60% of a family's bill in their service area. While the supply prices are beyond their control, JCP&L is committed to assisting customers through new and expanded assistance programs. These include bill assistance for income-eligible customers, energy efficiency tools, and practical energy-saving tips. The rise in supply costs is attributed to increased demand and reduced supply due to power plant retirements, resulting in a 19.6% increase in the average residential bill. JCP&L serves 1.1 million customers across various counties in New Jersey.
