OpenAI Gets Pentagon Contract to Develop AI for National Security Challenges

OpenAI Public Sector was awarded a $200 million contract to address national security challenges by the Defense Department.

The San Francisco company will develop prototype frontier AI capabilities to address critical challenges in both warfighting and enterprise domains, the Pentagon said Monday.

The contract was for work with the department's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office.

Most of the work will be performed in the Washington, D.C., area, and has an estimated completion date of July 2026.
