1249 ET - Albertsons Cos. is figuring out how to address changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. "The SNAP customer is a valuable customer for us. They typically have bigger baskets, they're often very loyal," said CEO Susan Morris at WSJ's Global Food Forum in Chicago. She adds that the grocery store chain hasn't yet had challenges specifically tied to restrictions on candy or soda. "As SNAP continues to change, we'll stay close," said Morris. WSJ has reported that the Agriculture Department is fast-tracking state requests to pull soda and candy from food-stamp programs, noting that Arkansas and Indiana are among the first to seek clearance from USDA to implement such changes.
