6月23日，小米董事长兼CEO雷军在微博发文，回应为何不做6座SUV。雷军表示，“大家知道SUV里的S是什么吗？S是Sport，SUV就是‘运动型多功能车’。我们首款SUV，就是‘不忘初心’，做好一辆运动SUV。”“新能源时代，‘彩电冰箱大沙发’确实很重要。同时，驾驶者的驾驶体验也应该被关注。小米YU7，就是这样一辆兼具豪华运动性能，和豪华舒适性的SUV。”他写道。
