MDA Space Wins Critical Sensor Contracts Worth C$60 Mln for Canadian Naval Fleet

MDA Space has secured 60 million Canadian dollars ($43.7 million) worth of contracts to deliver critical sensor systems for new military ships for the Canadian navy.

The space technology company said Tuesday that it will deliver and integrate its sensor systems for the first three ships in Canada's River-class Destroyer Program.

The new sensors improve situational awareness and protect the ships against laser and optical guided threats.

The River-class Destroyer Project--formerly known as the Canadian surface combatant project--is the largest and most complex shipbuilding initiative in Canada since the Second World War.

Irving Shipbuilding will build the new ships out of its Halifax Shipyard as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy, which aims to renew the Canadian naval fleet and reinvigorate the shipbuilding sector, vital to Canadian sovereignty.
