Metro Bank's Majority Shareholder Open to Selling Stake, Reuters Says, Citing Sources

--The majority shareholder of U.K. challenger lender Metro Bank is open to selling his stake and has gotten interest from investors, Reuters reports, citing unnamed sources.

--Colombian billionaire Jaime Gilinski Bacal has owned an almost 53% of Metro Bank since an equity recapitalization in 2023 and has been considering options including a sale or growing the bank via a merger, Reuters reports, citing unnamed sources.

--This follows reports of takeover interest from Pollen Street Capital and BC Partners, which own the bank Shawbrook. Talks stopped after the parties disagreed on valuation and the board rejected the offer, according to a source, Reuters reports,

--Metro Bank, BC Partners and Pollen Street Capital declined to comment to Reuters. Gilinski also declined to comment through a representative.
