Traders on Friday added to bets the Federal Reserve will lower short-term borrowing costs by 75 basis points in 2025, most likely starting in September, after government data showed consumer spending dropped in June and underlying inflation unexpectedly rose.
Interest-rate futures pricing also implied about a 23% chance that the rate cuts will begin in the next months, up from about 21% before the data.
