American Water Works Co. Inc. has received regulatory approval from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) for its acquisition of Manwalamink Water and Sewer Company's systems. The approval, granted on March 27, 2025, allows Pennsylvania American Water to adopt existing rates for two years and continue monthly billing for the 1,260 water and wastewater connections in Monroe County's Middle Smithfield and Smithfield townships. Any future rate changes will require PUC review and approval. Pennsylvania American Water plans to invest over $7 million in system improvements over the next five years to enhance regulatory, safety, and security standards.
