Chunghwa Telecom (TPE:2412) will invest over NT$2.4 billion as part of a consortium building the AUG submarine cable.
The project is a joint initiative among several network providers, with NEC selected as the cable supplier through an international open bidding process, according to a Friday Taiwan Exchange filing.
The project aimed to boost international bandwidth and service reliability.
The move aligns with Chunghwa's strategy to diversify cable routes and enhance telecom services, it said.
