Aldi drops prices on everyday goods to fight off Woolworths discounts

Aldi has lowered the price of dozens of everyday products as the German discount grocery retailer response to intense competition from Woolworths which is spending $100 million to regain market share.

The drop of about 1 per cent is Aldi’s biggest in 18 months and comes amid a price war in home brand products – higher-margin ranges that Woolworths and Coles are rapidly expanding – JPMorgan research shows.
