Barclays' group chief operating officer Alistair Currie is leaving the bank.

The British lender on Tuesday said that Craig Bright and Anne Marie Darling will replace Currie. The COO is stepping down, effective immediately, to pursue a board portfolio career.

Bright and Darling will assume the role of group co-chief operating officers and Barclays Execution Services co-chief executive officers.

The three executives have been working closely together since April for a smooth transition, it said.

The bank separately announced that the former chief executive of ABN Amro, Robert Swaak, has been appointed as one of the non-executive directors of Barclays Bank U.K.
