Sysco Looks to Gain Market Share with To-Go Pilot -- Market Talk

1200 ET - Sysco is piloting two cash & carry Sysco To Go locations in Houston which, if successfully expanded, could provide an opportunity for the distributor to grow its market share, UBS analysts say in a research note. Cash & carry is the fastest growing channel in the food-away-from-home space and appeals to customers that prioritize value, convenience and the ability to pay with cash, the analysts say. Sysco can use its existing fulfillment infrastructure to serve customers that typically rely on cash & carry players like Restaurant Depot or retailers like Costco or Walmart for their purchases, they say. It could also snag customers that frequently use delivery-based distributors but look to cash & carry for fill-in trips, the analysts say. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
