Chinese tech giant Alibaba and website builder Wix.com have formed a partnership that they say will help their users grow their businesses overseas.
Alibaba.com, the Chinese company's core e-commerce platform, said the move will give its sellers the ability to build virtual storefronts using Wix's platform.
In turn, merchants on Nasdaq-listed Wix can access Alibaba.com's marketplace sourcing to expand wholesale capabilities, the companies said in a joint statement Wednesday.
The move came as Alibaba.com steps up efforts to help sellers on its network of platforms have a larger international presence as trade tensions cloud conditions in certain markets.
"Our partnership with Wix simplifies the complexities of international trade, offering small businesses streamlined solutions for sourcing, selling, and expanding their global reach," said Kuo Zhang, president of Alibaba.com.
The collaboration will simplify Wix merchants' global selling process, and give Alibaba.com sellers the benefit of Wix's AI platform.
Alibaba has been making several moves to bolster its business in the face of rising competition in online shopping from the likes of PDD Holdings' Pinduoduo and ByteDance's Douyin.
Earlier on Wednesday, it announced that it would be rolling out about $7 billion in subsidies to users of its platform as it looks to win over more customers and business.
