Lockheed Martin Corporation has announced promising advancements in spacecraft docking technology, which are crucial for future lunar and Mars missions under NASA's Artemis program. The research results focus on the Orion spacecraft's capability to perform safe and precise autonomous docking with various spacecraft, including SpaceX's Starship and NASA's Gateway lunar space station. This technological advancement is expected to facilitate the transportation of crew and cargo between spacecraft and aid in spacecraft assembly and servicing in deep space. The results, which have already been tested using simulations and real-world conditions at Lockheed Martin's Space Operations Simulation Center in Denver, will be presented in upcoming scientific forums.
