智通财经APP获悉，英国石油(BP.US)与利比亚国家石油公司(NOC)签署了一项协议，计划共同研究重启该非洲国家的两座巨型油田。这家英国能源巨头周二在一份声明中表示，此份谅解备忘录提供了一个框架，以评估一系列技术数据，并协同评估未来的开发机会。
据悉，利比亚是非洲最大的石油生产国之一，也是OPEC的成员国。在英国石油重新关注这个非洲产油国之际，该公司正逐步摆脱其失败的低碳转型战略，转而更加专注于化石燃料业务。
英国石油天然气与低碳能源执行副总裁William Lin表示：“这项协议体现了我们在深化与利比亚国家石油公司合作关系方面的强烈意愿，也彰显了我们支持利比亚能源行业未来发展的承诺。我们希望能将英国石油在全球范围内重开发和管理巨型油田的经验应用到这一项目中。”
此次协议涵盖的油田为Sarir和Messla，分别于1961年和1971年发现。去年，英国石油在与意大利埃尼石油(E.US)合作下，在中断10年后重新进入了利比亚的天然气勘探业务。
