TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto highlighted climate change and global health crisis during a meeting with leaders of the participating countries on the second day of the High-Level Conference (KTT) BRICS 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday, local time, July 7, 2025.

The meeting addressed the theme "Environment, COP 30, and Global Health," focusing on environmental challenges and global health issues. In his statement after accompanying President Prabowo, Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir stated that Indonesia is committed to combating climate change.

"Earlier, the President mentioned that the impacts of climate change are strongly felt by Indonesia. He also conveyed Indonesia's commitment to combating climate change, particularly our efforts to pursue clean energy," Arrmanatha said in his official statement.

Tata-Arrmanatha's nickname-stated that several countries expressed their commitment to addressing climate change issues during the session. This commitment includes strengthening collaboration and climate agendas leading up to the Conference of The Parties or COP30 to be held in Brazil.

"Several countries expressed their commitment to addressing climate change and preparing for COP 30, which will take place in Belem, Brazil," Tata said.

In addition to climate and environmental issues, the Deputy Foreign Minister conveyed that Prabowo is also attentive to global health issues. According to him, Indonesia expressed support to the World Health Organization (WHO) in addressing global health issues.

"Earlier, President Prabowo conveyed his commitment to continue supporting the WHO regarding global health," he said.

The meeting with the leaders of the BRICS 2025 member countries on the first day resulted in several agreements outlined in the Leaders' Declaration. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that Prabowo affirmed Indonesia's full support for the new direction of BRICS cooperation.

"The outcomes of the meeting, one of which is the leader's declaration, includes several points related to strengthening multilateralism and reform of global governance," said Airlangga Hartarto in Rio de Janeiro.

The second point, Airlangga said, focuses on strengthening international peace and stability, as well as deepening cooperation in the economic, trade, and financial sectors. Airlangga stated that this agenda is crucial for Indonesia in expanding market access for national products and creating economic resilience amidst global turmoil.

"This second point is crucial for Indonesia amid our uncertainties, where we hope that BRICS can also absorb the market for Indonesian products," he said.

The third point in the declaration concerns commitments to climate change issues and fair and inclusive sustainable development. BRICS countries agreed that energy transition and green development must consider justice for developing countries.

"The third point is related to climate change and promoting sustainable, fair, and inclusive development," Airlangga said.

The fourth point is the strengthening of partnerships in the fields of human, social, and cultural development. Indonesia views this cooperation as essential in driving a uniform social transformation and mutual reinforcement among member countries.

"The fourth is partnership for the promotion of human, social, and cultural development. That is the outcome of the leaders' declaration," he said.

Prabowo attended the BRICS 2025 Summit at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday, July 6, 2025. President Prabowo's presence signifies Indonesia's debut participation in the BRICS summit after becoming a member earlier this year.
