Marathon Petroleum's El Paso refinery suffered a power outage Tuesday that led to five hours of flaring, the company reported in a filing with Texas regulators. It was one of two reports of refinery issues in the region Tuesday.
The incident began at 4:42 p.m. MT and ended at 9:42 p.m. and caused a facility-wide shutdown at the 133,000 b/d refinery, according to the filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The filing said refinery personnel stabilized process units in response to the outage.
Also on Tuesday, Exxon reported a malfunction in the light oil treater at its 588,000 b/d refinery in Baytown. The company said the incident involved the emergency block valve in the unit and lasted about 45 minutes, starting at 3:30 p.m. CT. Exxon said there was minimal impact on production.
