Meta Platforms' (META) superintelligence lab is discussing making changes to the company's artificial intelligence strategy, The New York Times reported on Monday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
Among the changes, top members of the team including Alexandr Wang, Meta's new chief AI officer, raised the possibility of the company abandoning its most powerful open source AI model, called Behemoth, in favor of developing a closed model, The New York Times said.
An open source AI model means that the computer code is public for other developers to work with, while a closed model would have its code kept private, The New York Times said.
The publication added that no conclusive decision has been taken regarding superintelligence lab's discussions, and that any potential changes would require approval from Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's founder and CEO.
Meta Platforms, Facebook's parent company, did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
