July 16 - (The Insurer) – RSA Insurance, now part of Canada’s Intact Financial Corporation, has appointed Emily Coupland as general counsel for its UK and European operations, the company said on Wednesday.
Coupland, who is currently general counsel at Axa UK and Ireland, will join RSA later this year, subject to regulatory approval. She will oversee legal and compliance functions across RSA’s UK and European businesses and sit on the firm’s operating committee.
The appointment comes as RSA prepares to rebrand under the Intact Insurance name later in 2025, following its acquisition by Intact Financial in 2021.
Nadia Cote, CEO of RSA Europe and head of specialty lines UK, said Coupland’s “expansive expertise” would support the insurer’s growth ambitions across the region.
Coupland has more than 30 years’ experience in financial services, with a background spanning transactional work, regulatory matters and corporate governance.
Alongside Denmark’s Tryg A/S, Toronto-based Intact acquired RSA Insurance Group in a 7.2 billion pound joint deal in 2021. Under the terms of the transaction, Intact took ownership of RSA’s Canadian, UK and international operations, while Tryg retained the Swedish and Norwegian businesses. The two firms jointly owned RSA’s Danish unit until its sale to Alm. Brand in 2022.
