外电报道，必和必拓澳洲总监Geraldine Slattery表示，澳洲建立“绿色铁”工业的成本过于昂贵，生产低碳钢铁产品成本根本无法合理化。即使有慷慨政策支持，澳洲生产成本将是中东和中国两倍，且客户远在数千公里之外。Slattery与其他矿业公司高层早前随澳洲总理阿尔巴内塞访问中国，阿尔巴内塞表示中澳两国应在绿色钢铁更密切合作。澳洲供应中国约六成铁矿石需求，但其铁矿石品位过低，无法直接使用可再生能源加工，需额外加工步骤。当加工步骤使用由可再生能源制成的氢气或生物质代替煤炭时，产品称为“绿色铁”，是为制造绿色钢铁的低碳基础。相关工艺预计要到下一个十年才能广泛商业化。澳洲一直发展矿物加工产业，但高昂电费和劳动成本限制发展。澳洲政府今年2月拨款10亿澳元支持“绿色铁”及其供应链的制造。(fc/w)
