New Fortress Energy (NFE) is withholding a liquefied natural gas shipment to Puerto Rico, which the company said owes it millions of dollars, Bloomberg reported Monday.
New Fortress Energy told Puerto Rico energy czar Josue Colon that the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority owes the company over $9 million, plus interest of $3 million, from shipments in 2020, the news outlet reported, citing a letter.
Under the terms of the company's contract, New Fortress Energy can withhold deliveries if payment isn't made, the report said, citing the letter.
Colon said his office doesn't have a record of those debts and that New Fortress Energy's move is unjustified, according to the report.
The company and Colon didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
Shares of New Fortress Energy were down by nearly 5% in recent trading.
