China Likely to Take Lead on Robotaxis -- Market Talk

0725 GMT - China will likely take the lead on robotaxis given the current pace of rollout, adoption and acceptance in the market, HSBC Global Research analysts write in a note. The market penetration of vehicles with higher-autonomous driving functions was 17% in 2024, they say, higher than most other countries. Better acceptance of autonomous-driving technology means China will be more willing to embrace robotaxis. The U.S. is likely to be the next market to follow, but with rates of adoption varying by state, they say. The states that allow self-certification of autonomous vehicles by carmarkers are likely to take the lead in robotaxi rollout in the U.S., they add. (jiahui.huang@wsj.com; @ivy_jiahuihuang)
