Goldman Sachs Chief Executive David Solomon said Wednesday that Federal Reserve independence is important and something that should be fought for, weighing in as noise increases that President Trump has considered removing Chair Jerome Powell.

"I think central bank independence, not just here in the United States but around the world, has served us incredibly well," Solomon said in a CNBC interview when asked. "I think central bank independence, Fed independence, is very important and it's something we should fight to preserve."

Solomon said he was speaking only about monetary policy independence, not the Fed's role in supervising banks.
