S&P 500, Nasdaq Hit New Highs -- Market Talk

1604 ET - U.S. stocks rise with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite notching fresh highs as investors sift through the latest earnings reports and economic data. TSMC shares gain as the world's largest contract chip maker posts record profits despite tariff uncertainty.PepsiCo gains 7.5% and United Airlines rises 3.1% after posting better-than-expected results. GE Aerospace slips 2.2% on worries that tariffs will hurt demand. Weekly jobless claims and retail sales data show the economy is still performing well. DJIA rises 229 points, or 0.5%, to 44484, the S&P 500 gains 0.5% to 6297 and the Nasdaq climbs 0.7% to 20884. (patrick.sullivan@wsj.com)
