Ex-Rio Tinto chief has an anonymous guardian angel

Simon Trott’s elevation to the CEO chair at Rio has been described as “a breath of fresh air”. This can mean only one thing: he’s no Jean-Sébastien Jacques.

One of the first things the Frenchman who led Rio from 2016 to 2021 did was to tell workers at a Brisbane town hall to “fit in or f--- off”. He then blew up himself, and the priceless Juukan Gorge, in 2020. Once he was out the door Elizabeth Broderick went in and lifted the lid on Rio’s culture of bullying, racism and harassment.
