TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of the United States Donald Trump stated that Indonesia is committed to purchasing 50 Boeing aircraft, the majority of which are Boeing 777s. He said this decision was the result of a trade agreement that the two countries reached after he met with President Prabowo Subianto to negotiate import tariffs.

"This morning, I finalized an important Deal with the Republic of Indonesia after speaking with the Highly Respected President Prabowo Subianto," said Trump in a post on social media, Truth Social, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, U.S. time.

On a separate occasion, Prabowo revealed the reasons for the purchase of dozens of Boeing aircraft. He mentioned that Garuda Indonesia will use aircraft from a U.S. manufacturer.

"We are determined, I am determined to grow Garuda. For that, we need new aircraft. I don't think there will be a problem because we need them and they want to sell," said Prabowo after returning from a working visit to several countries at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
