Seadrill Ltd. is currently involved in a legal dispute after a judgment was rendered against the company by the High Court of Justice in England. The case, which was initiated by an individual claimant, concerns negotiations related to the establishment of Sonadrill, Seadrill's joint venture in Angola, dating back to late 2018 and early 2019. The claimant sought damages of approximately $72 million for breach of contract and/or unjust enrichment. The court has ruled in favor of the claimant, and while the exact quantum of damages is yet to be finalized, Seadrill estimates its liability may not exceed $53 million, excluding potential legal fees. The company is considering its options, including a possible appeal, and anticipates the judgment will impact its 2025 Adjusted EBITDA by approximately $10 million.
