UPDATE 1-Kinder Morgan Elba LNG export plant in Georgia starts to take in natgas, LSEG data shows

Adds comment from company in paragraph 3

July 18 (Reuters) - U.S. energy firm Kinder Morgan's KMI.N Elba Island liquefied natural gas export plant in Georgia was on track to take in a small amount of natural gas on Friday, a sign it could be exiting a two-day maintenance outage, data from LSEG showed.

Data from the financial firm said the amount of gas flowing to Elba was less than 0.1 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) on Friday, up from zero on Wednesday and Thursday. That compares with an average of 0.4 bcfd over the prior seven days.

The scheduled maintenance at Elba Island was for a system upgrade, and the entire plant should be back up by the weekend, Kinder Morgan said on Friday.

Elba is capable of turning about 0.4 bcfd of gas into LNG.

All of the LNG from Elba goes to British multinational oil and gas firm Shell SHEL.L under a long-term contract.

One billion cubic feet of gas is enough to supply about 5 million U.S. homes for a day.
