Wallbox (WBX) said Thursday it has launched virtual power plants in California and New York through a new collaboration with Leap, a platform for scaling VPPs.
The initiative, part of the company's Wallbox Rewards program, will aggregate energy from home electric vehicle chargers to help stabilize the power grid, the company said, adding that the program allows users to earn financial incentives by enabling their chargers to shift electricity usage to times of lower demand and cleaner energy availability.
The VPPs, now live in California and New York, use Leap's platform to aggregate energy from thousands of chargers to help utilities manage demand and support renewable energy, with expansion to other US markets, including Texas, planned for later this year, Wallbox said.
