Sterigenics U.S., LLC, a subsidiary of Sotera Health Company, has reached a binding term sheet agreement to resolve 129 ethylene oxide claims related to its former facility in Willowbrook, Illinois. The settlement includes ten claims set for trials in the Circuit Court of Cook County in 2025 and 2026, as well as other claims from an additional 119 claimants. As part of the agreement, Sterigenics will pay $34 million, and the plaintiffs' claims will be dismissed with prejudice. The settlement process is anticipated to take 60 to 90 days and requires several conditions to be met, including full claimant participation and a good faith determination by the court. Sterigenics denies any liability, and the settlement is not to be interpreted as an admission of safety hazards from the facility's emissions.
