美国财长斯科特·贝森特在特朗普政府官员对美联储主席杰罗姆·鲍威尔的持续攻击中表态支持这位美国央行行长，称他看不出鲍威尔有卸任的理由。

　　“没有迹象表明他现在应该卸任，”贝森特周二接受Fox Business采访时谈到这位美联储主席时说。“他的任期将在明年五月结束。如果他想完成任期，我认为他应该这么做。如果他想提前离开，我认为他也可以这么做。”

　　鲍威尔数月来一直受到美国总统唐纳德·特朗普的抨击，因为他领导的美联储因为担忧政府征收关税带来的潜在通胀影响而决定维持利率不变。贝森特周一呼吁对美联储的非货币活动进行内部审查，包括翻修工程。

　　“这对他和他的遗产来说是一个真正的机会——合理调整美联储非货币政策职能的规模，”贝森特说。他强调，对于货币政策，“我们应该单独放在一边——那部分应该像放在珠宝盒里一样。”

　　贝森特表示，就其他事务而言，美联储“只是一再扩张、扩张、再扩张。这就是缺乏监管的结果——他们不受拨款的约束”。贝森特说，“我认为应该进行一次彻底的审查。”
