　　今天上午，美国政府对美联储主席鲍威尔及该机构本身的批评进一步扩大到了“职能渗透”以及其他官员的有效性问题。过去几天的事态发展强化了我的观点：即如果鲍威尔主席的目标是捍卫美联储的运作自主性（我认为这一点至关重要），那么他就应该辞职。

　　我意识到这并非主流观点，主流意见是支持他留任至明年5月任期结束；这也不是最理想的方案——最理想的方案根本无法实现，但它要好过当前的局势——美联储独立性正受到越来越广泛和严重的威胁—而且如果鲍威尔继续在位，威胁毫无疑问将与日俱增。

　　至于市场反应，被频繁提及的鲍威尔潜在继任人选大多都会有能力平复任何可能的市场动荡。
