Trigg Minerals (ASX:TMG) engaged Metso to develop a scalable system for processing antimony sulfide concentrates using the Ausmelt Top Submerged Lance smelting technology, according to a Wednesday Australian bourse filing.

Metso's study will look at a three-stage pyrometallurgical flowsheet, consisting of the primary smelting of antimony sulfide concentrates to generate high-grade antimony oxide fume, the treatment of the oxide fume to produce crude antimony metal, and the refining of the metal to assess the potential to produce refined antimony metal to a target purity of 99.65%.

It will consider a conceptual smelter configuration based on an initial processing throughput of refined antimony metal of 3,000 tonnes per annum to 5,000 tonnes per annum.

The firm is progressing early-stage development planning for its Antimony Canyon project in the US.

Its shares jumped 13% in recent trading on Wednesday.
