Canada Goose Isn't The Luxury Brand It Wants to Be -- Market Talk

1335 ET - Canada Goose wants to be a luxury brand but Williams Trading analyst Sam Poser believes it's falling short. Poser sees the clothing company as a premium outdoor brand rather than luxury. That is evidenced, he says, by the fact that Canada Goose didn't provide full-year guidance citing ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty. Poser believes weaker spending among budget-conscious consumers shouldn't be a problem for a luxury brand, and the lack of guidance demonstrates management isn't confident about the company's direction. "If Canada Goose was the luxury brand it aspires to be, an uncertain trade environment would be a huge opportunity to grow and gain market share," he says. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
