1150 GMT - BASF's reported divestment of its coatings business will likely come into increasing focus through the fourth quarter and into the first quarter of 2026, Morgan Stanley analysts say in a research note. The German chemical giant previously highlighted that the coatings business isn't appropriately valued within the structure of the company. It said that as a standalone business, coatings is better placed to compete with its pure-play peers. Now, the company has reportedly initiated the sale. "While the components could feasibly be more highly valued individually, the timeline for execution of a multi-step disposal could prove long and potentially unattractive, suggesting the company could look to strike a balance," the analysts say. Shares trade 1% lower at 43.07 euros. (nina.kienle@wsj.com)
