Generally, when a single insider buys stock, it is usually not a big deal. However, when several insiders are buying, like in the case of Avadel Pharmaceuticals plc (NASDAQ:AVDL), it sends a favourable message to the company's shareholders.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
AI is about to change healthcare. These 20 stocks are working on everything from early diagnostics to drug discovery. The best part - they are all under $10bn in marketcap - there is still time to get in early.
The Independent Director Eric Ende made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$235k worth of shares at a price of US$7.84 each. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$10.98), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.
While Avadel Pharmaceuticals insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. The average buy price was around US$8.90. It is certainly positive to see that insiders have invested their own money in the company. But we must note that the investments were made at well below today's share price. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!
