1350 ET - The second largest chicken processor in the U.S., Pilgrim's Pride, is spending $400 million to build a new facility in Georgia. Pilgrim's, which slaughters roughly a fifth of U.S. chicken, says the plant will employ 630 people, producing a variety of fully cooked chicken products to support the growth of its prepared foods business. The project is expected to finish in 2027. Pilgrim's has been ramping up its line of cooked, branded chicken products in recent years, including its Just Bare chicken line and Pilgrim's-branded chicken nuggets. The company is majority owned by JBS, the world's largest meatpacker. JBS said in May it was building a cooked sausage plant for its prepared foods business in Iowa. (patrick.thomas@wsj.com)
