Entegris shares were 9% lower, at $84.31, after the company reported lower second-quarter sales.
The industrial-machinery technology company said Wednesday it had quarterly sales of $792.4 million, compared with $812.7 million in the same quarter last year. Analysts polled by FactSet were looking for sales of $765.4 million.
Earnings for the quarter were $52.8 million, or 35 cents a share, compared with last year's $67.7 million, or 45 cents a share. Analysts were looking for earnings of $63.9 million, or 37 cents a share.
Adjusted earnings were 66 cents a share, compared with the 64 cents a share analysts had forecast.
For the third quarter, the company expects to have sales of $780 million to $820 million, compared to analysts' expectations of $805 million. Entegris is also looking for third-quarter earnings of 43 cents to 50 cents a share, and adjusted earnings of 68 cents to 75 cents a share. Analysts are forecasting earnings of 50 cents a share, and adjusted earnings of 75 cents a share.
Entegris said quarterly sales was driven by demand for its unit-driven technology, particularly CMP consumables, selective etch and deposition materials.
