Chinese technology firms, including Tencent (HKG:0700), ByteDance, and Alibaba (HKG:9988), are accelerating efforts in AI agent development following the overseas relocation of rival Manus, according to a South China Morning Post report on Tuesday.
At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Tencent Cloud unveiled over a dozen new AI agents for business and consumer use, including CodeBuddy IDE, a coding assistant rivaling ByteDance's Trae and Baidu's (HKG:9888) Comate, the report said.
Tencent also updated its agent platforms to support no-code development by third-party users, according to the report.
Manus, developed by Butterfly Effect, drew global attention in March for its general-purpose AI agent. After securing US venture backing, the company reportedly relocated to Singapore due to geopolitical pressures, prompting Chinese rivals to fill the gap.
