Santander's Strategic Investments in Focus -- Market Talk

0641 GMT - Santander's management will get questions on the expected payoffs from its recent strategic investments, RBC says in a research note. The Spanish bank reported second-quarter results with beats in Spain, the U.S. and Portugal, which were offset by misses in the U.K., Brazil and its digital consumer bank in Europe. This led pretax profit to come in 1% short of consensus expectations, analysts write. "The focus on today's call will likely be on the benefits we should expect to accrue in future years from Santander taking advantage of the fact that it is running ahead of guidance to implement strategic investment," they add. The bank recently sold most of its Polish operations and is buying TSB, peer Sabadell's U.K. unit. (elena.vardon@wsj.com)
