智通财经APP获悉，据知情人士透露，在两大竞争对手宣布合并后，美国铁路巨头CSX运输(CSX.US)正与高盛合作，评估参与行业整合的战略选项。这家总部位于佛罗里达州杰克逊维尔的货运运营商已就合并事宜的可行性与高盛展开磋商。知情人士强调，相关讨论尚处于初步阶段，未必会促成任何交易。
CSX与高盛的代表均拒绝就此置评。
谈判之际，美国铁路行业正迎来整合浪潮。本周，联合太平洋(UNP.US)宣布以720亿美元收购诺福克南方(NSC.US)，这一重磅交易给CSX及伯克希尔哈撒韦(BRK.A.US)旗下BNSF等竞争对手带来巨大压力，迫使它们考虑通过并购交易保持市场竞争力。
CSX首席执行官Joe Hinrichs本月公开表示，对与其他公司进行合并谈判持开放态度。据了解，该公司运营网络覆盖26个州、哥伦比亚特区及加拿大安大略省和魁北克省，铁路线总长约2万英里。
过去12个月CSX股价基本持平，当前市值约660亿美元。激进投资者Ancora Holdings Group周三透露正增持CSX股份，认为该铁路运营商目前表现未达预期。
从历史上看，由于监管环境严苛，铁路行业并购历来难以达成。但特朗普政府上任初期就任命Patrick Fuchs担任地面运输委员会主席，这位被视为行业整合支持者的官员上任，为并购交易创造了更有利的监管条件。
