The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) sought public views on Bega Cheese's (ASX:BGA) proposal to acquire some of Fonterra Co-operative Group's (NZE:FCG) consumer, food service, and dairy ingredients businesses in Oceania, including its Australian businesses, according to a Friday Australian bourse filing.

Dutch multinational dairy firm FrieslandCampina joined Bega in its bid, seeking to acquire Fonterra's businesses outside Oceania.

The competition watchdog noted that the businesses of Bega and Fonterra compete in the acquisition of raw milk from dairy farmers in Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales, and South Australia, as well as in milk processing, the production of a range of dairy products and dairy ingredients, and in the supply of dairy products and dairy ingredients to retailers and food service businesses.

The deadline for the submission of public views on the acquisition is Aug. 15.
